The double hinge (8) to suit door entry levels can extend in length and the rear end (6) of the ramp platform (3) is connected via hinge (8) to the rear carriage (11) as is also the hinge end (13) via a fixed link (12). The second end (14) of the hinge is pivotally connected to the rear platform end (6) and the hinge (8) is itself pivoted to the leading end of a lifting lever (17). The rear end of this lever is connected to a second carriage (19) between carriage (11) and platform (3). The rear carriage (11) is powered by two externally parallel hoist spindles (22). In service the front carriage (19) hits a housing endstop as against the rear carriage (11) which with its link piece (12) engages below the front carriage (19) far enough for the hinge (8) to be held in its raised end setting by means of the lifting lever (17).
