To form a metal profile and especially a chamber profile, by joining together at least one bar and two straps (3,4asterisk), a slide (5) is fitted with press rollers (6,7,8asterisk,9asterisk) to bear against the inner surfaces of the straps, in the direct vicinity of the bar feet, with facing counter rollers (12,13,14asterisk,15asterisk) at the outer surfaces. Each press roller (8asterisk,9asterisk) at one strap (4asterisk) is given a common setting against its facing support roller (14asterisk,15asterisk) by a setting mechanism (16,17), according to the variable gap (a) between the straps along the length of the profile. Each setting unit drive uses pneumatics, hydraulics or electromotors.
