The contacts 16, 18 of a vacuum switch are closed against a spring bias 23 by liquid pressure acting upon the bellows 19. The bellows 19 forms part of a closed chamber 21 at one end of the envelope, the chamber being supplied with an insulating liquid, such as transformer oil, by a pipe 22. The movable contact is slidably mounted and is connected to a fixed terminal 25 by spring fingers 24. Two such switches may be joined back to back (Fig. 2, not shown) and operated by a common liquid. Several single or double switches may be connected in series (Fig. 3, not shown). The fixed contact may be resiliently mounted (not shown). |
