<p>Disclosed is a cutting unit comprising a rotating cutting head and at least one generally uniform profiled cutting filament (200) which extends from the cutting head that is provided with means retaining the filament. The inventive filament is provided with at least one localized operating area which comprises a cutting edge (202) that is generally defined by two faces. The cutting head comprises means retaining the filament in a direction such that the cutting edge forms the attack area for the plants while the two faces defining the cutting edge taper respectively in an upward and downward direction relative to the cutting edge.
