<p>A recorder for recording data on both recording media contained in an existing tape cassette (50B) and a new tape cassette (50A) in an existing or new format. The recorder has a first write-inhibit detection switch (12) insertable into an identification hole (50Ah3) made in a new cassette (50A) and retracting in accordance with the open/close state of the write-inhibit identification hole made in an existing cassette, a second write-inhibit detection switch (10) retracting/emerging in accordance with the open/close state of a write-inhibit identification hole (50Ah1) made in the cassette (50A), and a cassette type detection switch (11) insertable into an identification hole (50Ah2) made in the cassette (50A) and made to retract by the side face of the existing cassette. A control circuit (5) discriminates the existing tape cassette (50B) from the new tape cassette (50A) in accordance with the states of the switches and records data in accordance with the discriminated cassette.</p> |
