[Also in Divisions B2 and C3] Non-woven mats or woven fabrics are impregnated with a thermosetting composition comprising (a) 5-95% by wt. of a polymerizable material selected from diallyl phthalate prepolymers, polyfunctional allyl monomers and methyl methacrylate provided at least 5% is liquid monomer and (b) 95-5% of a polyphenylene oxide having the formula in which n is at least 10 and the R groups are hydrogen or hydrocarbon, which may contain halo and/or carbonoxy groups, free of tertiary carbon atoms and having at least two carbons between any halogen and the benzene nucleus or R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> may be halogen and (c) a free radical catalyst for (a). Impregnated materials may be laminated and copper faced. Woven glass cloth is impregnated with an acetone solution of such a composition containing gammametharyloxypropyl-trimethoxysilane, dried and laminated under pressure with heat. Copper foil used to face such a laminate is pretreated with a trichloroethylene solution of such a composition and baked at 160‹ C. for 15 minutes before placing on the impregnated cloths.</p> |
