Each subscriber may pass a signal to a CAN (Controller Area Network) data bus, changing the signal level from a rest value (50) to an active signal level (42-48). Each subscriber passes a signal in turn. There are blank time periods (Delta td) between the first signals during a partial net drive period (T). There is an end period (Delta t) which is greater than a critical time period (Delta tk) before the start of the full net drive period (G). The last signals from the subscribers are transmitted during the full net drive period.
