An injection nozzle (20) is connected via a high pressure path (14,18) to an injection pump (12). A modulation valve (22) is provided in the high pressure path (18) to shape the injection characteristic. The modulation valve may be a 3/2 valve. An Independent claim is included for a method of injecting a fluid into a combustion chamber.
