A method and apparatus for generating an electronic program guide containing programming information about a plurality of channels, especially when such programming information about a plurality of channels is not available from a single source. The method includes tuning to a first available channel, extracting television programming information corresponding to the first available channel, accumulating the extracted television programming information to build an electronic program guide, tuning to a second available channel, extracting television programming information corresponding to the second available channel, and accumulating the extracted television programming information from the second available channel to further build the electronic program guide. Preferably, two or more front end tuner subsystems are provided so that a television program can be viewed while an electronic program guide is generated in background. |
