A method for mounting an inspection cover, or manhole cover, flush with the road surface has the cover (3) fitted into the shaped upper part (7) of a separate cylindrical duct (2) whose lower end locates into the top of a lower, fixed duct (1). The lower duct has an inner lipped flange (4) near the top end and with a loose fit. The upper duct fits into the lower duct with depth and tilt adjustment and thereby can accommodate a large change in the depth and tilt of the road surface, i.e. the upper duct and inspection cover are easily re-aligned with the road surface whenever the rod surface is repaired or re-laid. The bottom of the fixed duct has a flange (8) to connect to a housing or to a support duct.
