A method for producing a titanium dioxide composite ceramic material having a single crystal of calcium phosphate, such as apatite, exhibiting optical activity (light oxidation function) and being present at a part thereof, which comprises immersing titanium dioxide in an aqueous solution containing a phosphorus-containing ion and a calcium ion in excessive amounts as compared with those in a quasi bodily fluid, to thereby allow the following reactions to proceed: (1) the formation and coagulation of calcium phosphate cluster, and formation of octacalcium phosphate, (2) the conversion of the octacalcium phosphate to a single crystal [Ca9(PO4)6] of calcium phosphate such as apatite, (3) the growth of the single crystal, thereby preparing a titanium dioxide photocatalyst composite material having a compound comprising one or more of single crystals [Ca9(PO4)6] of calcium phosphate, such as apatite, being present at a part thereof.
