Described is a novel marker associated with human obesity, a variant of the melanin-concentrating hormone receptor (MCHR1) as well as polynucleotides encoding said polypeptide. Furthermore, diagnostic and therapeutic uses are described which are based on the finding that this MCHR1 variant is associated with human obesity.
