<p>Detecting a fire (174), in an aircraft cargo bay (102, 103 and 104), includes receiving a plurality of frames of video, determining an energy indicator for each of a subset of the plurality of frames, and detecting the presence of fire in response to the energy indicator corresponding to a predetermined pattern. Comparing energy indicators for each of the subset of the plurality of frames to a reference frame. Some of the subsets of the plurality of frames are provided by a camera having a sensitivity of between 400 nm and 1000 nm generating 640 x 480 pixels per frame. Some of the subsets of the plurality of frames are provided by a CCD or a CMOS camera (135 and 138). Some of the subsets are provided by an IR camera having sensitivity of between 7 and 14 micrometers.</p> |
