The PCI card has an alarm device comprising a pyro-detector, a power supply from a standard personal computer power supply unit, and is active when the personal computer is switched off, as it uses the standby voltage from the power supply unit. The alarm is given by switching on the computer, and transmitting an alarm signal by telephone or the internet. An audible alarm is output from the computer's internal loudspeaker (10).
