DEVICE OF SUPPLYING QOS FOR VOIP TRAFFIC IN IP ROUTER AND FORWARDING METHOD THEREFOR

PURPOSE: A forwarding method for VoIP traffic in an IP router and a forwarding method therefor are provided to transmit VoIP call connection information in multicast transmission method, and to supply a QoS(Quality of Service) function while forwarding a VoIP packet by using the transmitted information, thereby reducing system burden. CONSTITUTION: When a packet is received from a line card of a router(710), the router retrieves a destination IP address of an IP header of the received packet from a forwarding table of the line card, and decides whether a next hop to be transmitted exists(720). If so, the router checks whether the received packet is a VoIP packet(730). If so, the router confirms whether an IP precedence field value of a ToS(Type of Service) octet is 5(740). If not, the router sets the value to 5 or changes a DSCP value into 40(750). The router retrieves a precedence value for a corresponding flow from the forwarding table(760), and performs a queuing process(770).
