A semi-submersible offshore floating structure comprises at its upper part a working platform 1 supported by vertical buoyant columns 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 respectively located at the apices of a regular pentagon, each of the buoyant columns being integral at its lower end respectively with a caisson 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11 each elongated in a direction parallel to symmetry axis XY of the pentagon. The length 1 of the caissons is less than the length L of a side of the pentagon and the crossbracing system interconnecting the columns allows a disengagement space between adjacent columns 2 and 6 for a drill string placed near point O. The caissons may be flattened underneath so that the structure may rest in a stable position on the water bottom. |
