The present invention provides a compound of formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof wherein A, X, Y, Z, R<2>, R<3>, R<4>, R<5>, and R<6 >are as defined herein. The compounds of formula I are useful as antimicrobials against a number of human and veterinary pathogens.
