A method for operation of a control system (100) with a central controller (200) and a multiplicity of local controllers (300-500), whereby synchronization data is transmitted from the central to the local controllers and there is an exchange of control data between them relating to events and states of the control system. The inventive synchronous operation allows free programming of assembly groupings to the local controllers and freely programmable assembly function assignment. The invention also relates to a corresponding control system.
