A fuel cell power generation system capable of generating power constantly and reliably despite a sudden decrease in load power. The fuel cell power generation system comprises a fuel cell for generating power from a fuel and an oxidizer, a fuel treating unit for producing a fuel to be supplied to the fuel cell (1) from a power generation material, a combustor for burning a residual fuel gas not consumed by the fuel cell to heat the fuel treating unit, and a generated output instructing means for determining the generated output of the fuel cell, wherein, when the generated output instructing means reduces the generated power of the fuel cell according to an expected decrease in load power to be supplied, a generated power is decreased at a speed varying with a change in temperature of the fuel treating unit.
