To produce the light metal cylinder block (1) as a casting, for an internal combustion motor, the cylinder liners (2-4) are placed in the mold, to be surrounded at least partially by the mold cores which form the water coolant zones (5) between neighboring cylinders. The molten metal is poured into the mold so that the liners melt at least at their edges (7) at the mounting surface (6) for the cylinder head. The metals of the liners and the block are compatible so that there is a metallurgical fusion between them in the finished casting.
