The invention relates to a system and a method for implementing a protocol automatically protecting multiplexing sections (MSP) in a synchronous network (R), in which a synchronous frame is transmitted across one or several SDH-type or SONET-type synchronous subnetworks (RIS, RIN). Said system makes it possible to transfer in a secure manner data across different subnetworks while continuing to allow multiplexing sections to be protected even when transmission errors have occurred in multiplexing sections which are part of independent subnetworks.
