Biaxially oriented, hydrolysis resistant film, method for its preparation and use

Biaxially-oriented, hydrolysis-resistant film (BOF) with a thickness of 0.5-12.0 microns and with a thermoplastic (TP) as main component shows an AC breakdown voltage of at least 190 kV/mm and a roughness (Ra) of less than 150 nm, and contains at least one hydrolytic stabilizer (HS) with a low gas evolution. Independent claims are also included for (1) a method for the production of BOF by making flat film from TP and HS by melt extrusion, quenching on a cooling roll, compacting the film by passing it over roller(s), biaxially stretching the film, heat-fixing and adding a conductive coating; and (2) starter condensers produced with the aid of BOF.
