There is provided a method of harvesting chicory, of which the roots (A) having tops (B) formed thereon are accommodated in holders (2) in forcing trays (1). A cutting member (4) and the holders (2) are relatively guided and the tops (B), which are placed side-by-side, are then cut off from the roots (A). To do this, the holders (2) and at least one row of chicory roots (A) are lifted from the forcing tray (1) and are placed at an angle to the horizontal, whereafter the cutting member (4) and the holders (2) are moved relatively and the chicory tops (B) fall and are received. The respective apparatus comprises positioning means for positioning the holders (2) in an inclined position, a cutting member (4), means for relatively moving the positioning means and the cutting member (4), and reception means for receiving the cut-off tops (B). <IMAGE> |
