Method for extracting the spectral signature of a point target appearing as a radiometric point within an image formed as a pixel matrix of a view obtained in a single spectral band has the following steps: detection and extraction of a target image from the whole image; localization of the target center; determination of a base effectively orthogonal to the spatial domain vectors; expression of the target image in the base and estimation of successive orders of state vectors. The invention also relates to a corresponding device.
