Siloxane or silane compounds having alpha-phenylsulfonylacrylonitrile groups are new. Siloxane or silane compounds of formula (1)-(3) are new. A = a group of formula (I) or its trans isomer; R = 1-20C (un)saturated alkyl, phenyl, 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl or OSiMe3, at least 80% being methyl; B = R or A; R'1-R'3 = 1-8C (un)saturated alkyl, phenyl or benzyl; r = 0-50; s = 0-20; u = 1-6; t = 0-10; and t+u = 3 or more provided that at least one B is A if s = 0. R1 = H, 1-8C (un)saturated alkyl, or phenyl optionally substituted with 1-8C (un)saturated alkyl or alkoxy; R2 = H, 1-8C (un)saturated alkyl or 1-8C (un)saturated alkoxy; R3 = 1-8C (un)saturated alkyl or 1-8C (un)saturated alkoxy; L = CH2, CH2CH2, CH2-CHY-(Z)p, CH=CH(Z)p or C(=CH2)-(Z)p; Z = 1-6C (un)saturated alkylene optionally substituted with OH or 1-8C (un)saturated alkyl; Y = H, OH or 1-8C (un)saturated alkyl; and p = 0 or 1. An Independent claim is also included for a cosmetic or dermatological composition for topical use containing the siloxane or silane compound.
