In the present invention, there is disclosed a conveyor/cooler (10) of hot loose solid material (18) comprising one or more discharge channels (20) fundamentally vertical or at any inclination along which, because of gravity, said material (18) leaves the area wherein it is generated and a sealed metallic container (16) connected to the downstream end of said discharge channel (20). The invention is characterized in that within said container (16) there is arranged a driven conveyor belt (14) and on such a belt (14) the material (18) from the downstream end of the discharge channel (20) is layered forming a continuous traveling material (18) bed. Said conveyor belt (14) thus represents a regenerative heat exchanger, which absorbs heat from the material (18) during the forward run and delivers it to air inside the cooler during both forward run, by its down side, and backward run by both its sides. A gap (32), extending between the bottom of the discharge channel (20) downstream end and the conveyor belt (14) being fundamentally such as to allow passage of material (18) particles having the largest supposed size. At least one discharge channel (20), filled with the material (18), is provided with pressure separation means having the form of a plug to create separation between upward and downward pressure, further with means for changing speed of the conveyor belt (14) in dependence on a signal from overpressure means or any other variable quantity indicating the amount of material (18) to be discharged, and means for adjusting the conveyor belt (14) speed in order to set the material (18) capacity. Method for conveying the material (18) is characterized in that after the thickness of the material (18) layer on the conveyor bet (14) is set, said material capacity is adjusted by changing the conveyor belt (14) speed according to a signal from the overpressure means or any other variable indicating the amount of material (18) to be discharged. |
