Means and process for detecting and enriching microorganisms

Binding peptides (I) for binding Mycobacterium paratuberculosis are new. (I) are: (a) segments of 8 amino acids (aa) from any of 42 sequences reproduced; or (b) segments of 8 aa functionally equivalent to (a). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) method for enriching M. paratuberculosis using immobilized (I); (2) reagent for detecting a microorganism comprising (I) linked to a marker; (3) method for detecting a microorganism by treating a sample with the reagent of (2) then detecting the marker; (4) kit for: (a) enriching; or (b) detecting a microorganism comprising (I) linked to: (i) a solid carrier; or (ii) a marker; (5) kit for detecting M. paratuberculosis comprising (I) at least one of two specific primers (10) and (11); and (6) nucleic acid (II) that includes a segment encoding (I).
