A paper coating composition (I) contains a copolymer binding agent prepared by radical polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated compounds such that the polymer has at least one copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated group, a number average mol. wt. of 500-50,000 g/mol and at least one carboxylic acid group. Independent claims are included for: (i) paper coated with composition (I); and (ii) printed coated paper.
