A control process for a combustion engine (20) comprises adjusting the opening time of an inlet valve (5) of a cylinder (1) depending on the drive parameters, especially rotation speed, of the engine. In a first condition valve opening is delayed and, in a second, closing is delayed into a pressurizing phase. An Independent claim is also included for a device operating the above process.
