The communication system has a base station (NB) with 2 radio network controllers (RNC1,RNC2), for providing first communication links for transmission of signals via an air interface using a first carrier frequency and second communication links for transmission of signals via an air interface using a second carrier frequency. A common HF stage processes the signals for both communication links, each of the communication links assigned an identification used for directing the communication links to 2 communication terminals connected to the 2 radio network controllers.
