Components (11, 12), at least one of which is non-metallic, are joined by a melt adhesive seam while held in a press mold (14, 15). The mold has a groove (17) containing a microwave conductor (18) along the seam to provide the heat energy. The conductor can be formed by an insulated inner conductor and outer light alloy blocks (16, 24). Magnets (23) concentrate the field to the seam. An Independent claim is also included for a bonding press incorporating a groove with microwave heating. The mold parts (14, 15) are brought together by an automatic handling device. The microwave source (19) is housed within the press tool.
