In the manufacture of parallax panoramagram pictures, a method of aligning a printing plate bearing a lineiform image with the lenticules of an embossed transparent plastics coating for the print comprises making a reference print with lines parallel to the lenticule-forming grooves of the embossing roller, making a test print from the printing plate on to the reference print and thus adjusting the position of the printing plate as indicated by the Moire pattern on the test print. The reference prints may be made by means of carbon paper between the embossing roller and a sheet of paper. Again, the reference prints may be taken from a printing plate bearing a number of slightly converging groups of parallel lines. The printing plate is prepared by successively exposing a photographic plate to a grating transparency two feet long and half an inch wide ruled at 150 lines per inch lengthwise. The grating is rotated against a control grating through a precise small angle as indicated by the Moire pattern before each exposure. Sheets printed from this plate are then coated and embossed by the roller, the plate being adjusted to give parallelism with the correct group of lines. In another technique, the grating printing plate comprises lines of a different spacing to that of the lineiform image. In preparing a collage of say 16 pictures, a large print of the convergent grating is made and covered by transparent sheeting. Sixteen identical gratings are made on stripping film and are transferred to the transparent sheet after alignment with the grating thereon. The 16 lineiform images may now be aligned with the 16 gratings and transferred to a further sheet. |
