A pit prop or tunnel construction prop has an external tubular skin made of a high-tensile material around an inner core of solidified de-watered aggregate. The aggregate is first introduced to the hose as a mixture of aggregate and water under pressure. The prop is positioned between the floor and gallery ceiling. The skin is esp. self-stiffening and flexible gauze or weave and made of steel, plastic, textile or a mixture of these.
