Production of an amperometric biosensor comprises coating a screen printed two electrode system comprising a platinum or gold working electrode and a silver/silver chloride counter electrode with a composition comprising a polymer, a mediator and an enzyme. Production of an amperometric biosensor based on a two electrode system comprising a substrate screen printed with a platinum or gold working electrode, a silver counter electrode, conductors, contacts and an electrically insulating lacquer coating covering the non-electrode areas of the substrate and conductors, comprises coating the silver electrode with a silver chloride layer by passing an anodic current through the electrode in a chloride solution, coating the electrodes and the space between them, or the working electrode, with a polymer, a mediator and an enzyme in the form of at least one solution or suspension, and drying the coating. An Independent claim is also included for an amperometric thick film biosensor for determining the hydrogen peroxide concentration in a solution, which comprises: (a) a substrate, (b) a printed platinum or gold working electrode, (c) a printed silver counter electrode coated with silver chloride, (d) an insulating lacquer layer covering the non electrode areas of the substrate, (e) conductors, and (f) a homogeneous polymer layer containing an enzyme and mediator covering the electrodes and the space between them.
