PURPOSE: Provided is a sludge thickening apparatus comprising a sludge thickening basin and a sludge tank and using decomposition gas generated from the sludge thickening tank to thicken sludge. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus comprises two sludge thickening basins(1A,1B), each being comprised of a cylinder-shape upper part and a hopper-shape lower part, and having a level sensor(1-4) for detecting water level of the basins(1A,1B), a central purification basin(1-3A,1-3B) in the center thereof, a sludge scrapper installed at a lower portion thereof, and a driving unit for driving the sludge scrapper; a sludge tank (sa) for temporarily storing thickened sludge transferred from the sludge thickening basins(1A,1B); a first pump(3) for transferring sludge to the sludge thickening basins(1A,1B) from a settling tank (ma), a second pump(10) for transferring decanted water and thickened sludge to a sedimentation tank (ka) and the sludge tank (sa), respectively, from the sludge thickening basins(1A, 1B), and a third pump(15) for transferring the thickened sludge to an anaerobic digester (ba) or a dehydrator from the sludge tank (sa).
