An apparatus for slitting paperboard comprises a shaft 24 supporting a plurality of serrated edge blades 28, 30, 32 and a brush roll 40 having bristles positioned so as to have an interference fit with the cutting edges of the blades whereby corrugated paperboard may be slit as it passes between the brush roll and blades. The serrated blades 28, 30, 32 are provided with hubs 34, 36 so that the blades may be adjusted along the shaft and set by screws in the hubs. A further two cutting shafts may be provided, the three shafts either be driven by a common motor or each shaft having its own motor. The brush roll 40 is covered with bristles made from nylon. A doctor bar 44, Fig. 2, may be provided in order to eliminate the formation of grooves in the brush roll.</p> |
