An information recording medium of excellent jitter characteristics having a large difference between reflectance before recording and reflectance after recording, which comprises a substrate and, supported thereby, a recording layer constituted of a material whose reflectance is changed by light beam irradiation, the recording layer capable of recording information as a change of reflectance, the recording layer composed of a metal nitride as a main component. The recording layer is composed of a mixture of a low-temperature decomposable nitride that is not entirely nitrided and decomposed at given temperature to thereby generate nitrogen and a high-temperature decomposable nitride that is decomposed at temperatures exceeding the given temperature. The process for producing the information recording medium comprising a substrate and, supported thereby, a recording layer constituted of a material whose reflectance is changed by light beam irradiation, the recording layer capable of recording information as a change of reflectance, the recording layer composed of a metal nitride as a main component, comprises a recording layer forming step wherein a recording layer is formed by a reaction sputtering method using a target whose main component is a metal constituting the metal nitride and wherein the atmosphere comprises Ar and N2 whose flow ratio of Ar:N2 is set so as to fall within the range of 80:10 to 10:80.
|
