The switch (1) is arranged in a switch housing (6) filled with the insulation and/or cooling liquid (7) connected to a balancing vessel (9) at least partly filled with the liquid. The housing and vessel form a unit (6,8,9) hermetically sealed relative to ambient air with an arrangement (15) for determining liquid level and a shut-off arrangement (18) at a high point that temporarily opens it to ambient air if the level falls below a defined value. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) an electrical transformer with an inventive switch enclosed by liquid for insulation and/or cooling.
