APPARATUS FOR RECEIVING DIGITAL BROADCASTING SIGNALS CAPABLE OF AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTING PICTURE RATIO

PURPOSE: An apparatus for receiving digital broadcasting signals capable of automatically adjusting a picture ratio is provided to adjust broadcasting signals inputted in a 16:9 format to be suited for a 4:3 digital screen. CONSTITUTION: A Y signal and vertical/horizontal synchronous signal separating unit(10) separates a Y signal deciding the brightness and vertical/horizontal synchronous signals from Y/Pb/Pr signals of video signals inputted to a broadcasting signal receiving apparatus. A picture ratio adjusting unit(20) detects the existence of a black bar in the received video signals. If the black bar exists, the picture ratio adjusting unit calculates an expansion ratio of the received video signals in horizontal or vertical direction according to the size of the black bar. A scaler(30) scales the received video signals to be appropriate for the broadcasting signal receiving apparatus.
