A catalyst composition for the oxidation of carbon monoxide and volatile organic compounds and for hydrogenation reactions comprises at least alumina and ceria as two different high surface area oxide support materials wherein at least one of the high surface area support material supports at least one base metal promoter such as cerium or manganese.
