A transmitter (6) emits beams (8) of transmitted light. A receiver (13) picks up beams (12) of received light. The transmitted beams are guided onto marks and the received beams reflected from the marks are guided onto to the receiver. Receiving signals in the receiver are fed to an evaluation unit (5) for recording the marks.
