A cutlery implement (100) includes a blade (300), a tang (400) and a handle (200). An insignia or marking (255) is located on an end surface (260) of th e handle facing away from the blade, the insignia indicating the type of blade attached to the handle. The blade and tang are part of a single piece of forged metal. The tang extends substantially the entire length of the handle and includes a surface visible from the top of the handle.
