The method involves opening and closing the opening (12) with a motor-driven movable part (10) with a displacement motor (20), control unit (30) and an operating device (28). An obstruction (26) in the path of motion of the part is detected on opening and/or closing the part and a signal passed to the control unit to stop or reverse the movement of the part. On actuating the operating device to close the opening the part is first moved opposite to the closing direction and then in the closing direction. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) an arrangement for opening and closing an opening, e.g. a window or roof opening in a vehicle (b) and a method of moving a movable part, especially a vehicle seat.
