PURPOSE: A method for transmitting fax data according to transmission methods by destinations and a facsimile appropriate for the same are provided to transmit fax data in a transmission method wanted by a user without participation of the user in the case of a communication error. CONSTITUTION: If an abbreviated dial number is received, a system control unit(203) searches for destination information related to the received abbreviated dial number in a storage unit(206). The system control unit tries to transmit fax data according to a transmission method of the highest priority based on the searched information. If the fax data is normally transmitted, the system control unit judges whether the fax data transmission is terminated. If so, the system control unit reports the normal transmission termination to a user through a display unit(202). If the fax data is not normally transmitted, the system control unit checks whether a transmission method of the next priority exists. Otherwise, the system control unit reports an error to the user. If so, the system control unit converts the fax data transmission method into the transmission method of the next priority, and retries transmission of the fax data with the converted transmission method.
