The reduction gearing in the hub drive has a planetary system with a multiple layer disc brake (06) between the planetary cage mounting and the outer housing. The compact hub drive has the inner discs of the brake mounted on the outer flange of the planetary carrier and interdigitated with discs mounted on the inside of the hub housing. The compact brake is axially adjacent to the planetary gears and does not increase the axial length of the hub drive nor its radial size. The planetary carrier has a hub extension (07) onto whose end is bolted the wheel mounting flange (08).
