PURPOSE: An automatic calling device of a portable terminal is provided to easily make a call with a telephone number of an other party by inputting an initial sound only of the other party's name without using a telephone number searching function, thereby easily operating the portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A key value processor(1) processes a key value corresponding to a name of a receiver inputted through a keypad(10). A telephone number storage(4) stores the name of the receiver with a corresponding telephone number. A controller(3) stores the processed key value, and searches the telephone number storage(4) when a send key of the keypad(10) is inputted. If the name of the receiver corresponding to the key value is plural, the controller(3) displays the plural name of the receiver on an LCD(20) of a portable terminal. If the name of the receiver is single, the controller(3) commands a call with the telephone number of the receiver corresponding to the key value, and if the name does not exist, the controller(3) commands the call with the key value.
