A cell has a metal cathode container with a a carburized surface in intimate contact with the cathode depolarizer. The cathode is drawn from steel or nickel-plated steel and carburized in a hydrocarbon atmosphere at 1000- 1200‹ C., and the cell is a primary, alkaline zinc cell. The carburized cathode may also be of Fe, Ni or Ti. The carburized cathodes may also be used in secondary cells. |
