The water heating vessel has a gas inlet area (1) in the vessel housing (2) with a pot-like surrounding combustion chamber (3) which is open to the burner (4) and to a exhaust gas exit (5). The chamber has longitudinal ribs (7'). A conversion chamber has an end edge (8) which is insulated and a combustion chamber extension (11) has an insulating body (12) which forms a barrier in the direction of flow. The insulating body has a cylindrical inner area which fits with the chamber extension.
