Filter housing (1) comprises a filter (23), a closable/releasable fresh and recirculating air opening (30, 29), and an air outlet opening (2). The filter is arranged between the fresh and recirculating air opening and the air outlet opening. The filter housing is held in an opening in a front wall (3) separating the interior (4) of the vehicle from the engine space (6). The fresh and recirculating air opening is closed with a flap (21) which, when closing and/or releasing the recirculating and/or the fresh air opening, does not move through the opening in the front wall. Preferred Features: The filter is a pollen or dust filter.
