A container comprises a main body 2 and a lid 1 held closed by a toggle acting between the body and the lid. The toggle comprises an upper member 5 pivotally connected to the lid and a lower member 8 pivotally connected to the member 5 and also pivotal in bearings 4 on the container. A latching bolt 13 extends through a channel in a housing 11, formed at the lower end of the member 5, is clipped at 16 on housing 11, and abuts against an abutment 8a, Fig. 26 (not shown), on the member 8, thus holding the members 5, 8 rigidly together. When the bolt is not in place, the connection between the members 5, 8 is resilient as by two springs 10. The lid is released by pulling member 8 away from the container thus breaking the bolt 13 along a weakening indentation 17, and releasing member 8 from the bearings 4. |
